Who am I? (37)
I am
Salt
Born from the embrace of the sea,
Holding the fire of the sun,
Crystallized from the tears of the earth.
I seep into the ocean of cells,
Sustaining sixty trillion lives,
Guardian of the pure, clear waters between them.
I kindle the flame of digestion,
Unravel food into tenderness,
Clear the pathways of liver and kidney,
And open wide the gates of nourishment.
I awaken the taste of food,
Season blandness with joy,
Restore the appetite once lost,
And breathe back strength to the body.
I spark the currents of the brain,
Ignite the fire of thought,
Forge the spear of white blood cells,
And repel the waves of virus and plague.
O friend,
As the scripture says:
“Be the light and the salt of the world.”
Remain the salt of life—
Though the world may call you sinner,
Lose not your savor,
But live as a grain that halts decay
And guards the gift of life.
I am salt.
Against the snares of low-salt and no-salt delusion,
I defend life from rotting and disease,
An immortal white gold,
An alchemy of life
That brightens the darkness of the world.
