나는 누구인가?(52)

 

나는

신비

 

내 안에는 말로 다 할 수 없는 경이와

눈부신 비밀들이 숨 쉬고 있어라.

세상 사람들에겐 모순으로 보이나,

나에게는 모두가 오묘한 진리라네.

 

세상을 모두 꿰뚫는 창과

모든 것을 막아내는 방패가

어찌 함께 있을 수 있느냐 묻지만,

신비로운 실상이란

애초에 그런 공존 위에 서 있는 법.

 

하나이면서 여럿,

여럿이면서 하나—

서로 다른 듯 닮아 있고, 닮은 듯 다르도다.

동전의 앞과 뒤가 달라도

결국 한 몸인 것처럼.

 

선과 악 또한

떼려야 뗄 수 없는 짝꿍이지.

어둠이 없으면 빛도 없고,

빛이 없으면 어둠도 설 곳이 없듯.

서로를 비추는 거울이 없으면

둘 다 빛을 잃는다네.

 

유한 속에 무한이 깃들고,

무한 속에 유한이 숨 쉬나니.

단지 1과 2 사이라 해도

그 사이엔 무한의 숫자가 흐르지 않는가.

그래서 순간은 영원을 품고,

영원은 이 순간의 숨결 속에 깃드네.

지금 이 한 호흡을 온전히 살면

영원을 산 것과 같다네.

 

그리고 변화—

변화는 불변의 또 다른 얼굴,

가장 난해한 신비경이지.

움직임 속에서 고요를 보고,

고요 속에서 움직임을 보는 자,

그는 누구인가?

 

두 세계를 모두 보며,

둘이 사실 하나의 실상임을 아는 이,

그가 바로

신비의 모든 관문을 통과한 자라네.

 

아~ 살아있는 신비경이여!

존재의 본질은

눈물 나도록 오묘하고도 오묘하도다!

 

 

Who Am I? (52)

 

I am

Mystery

 

Within me, wonders beyond all words

and dazzling secrets quietly breathe

What the world calls contradiction

unfolds to me as subtle, sacred truth

 

They ask how a spear

that pierces through all things

and a shield

that blocks out everything

could ever dwell together as one

Yet mystery itself

always stands upon such impossible unions

 

One yet many

many yet one

different, yet strangely alike

alike, yet deeply different

Like the front and back of a coin

two faces, one body

 

Good and evil too

are an inseparable pair

Without darkness, there is no light

without light, even darkness has no home

Without a mirror to reflect each other

both would lose their radiance

 

The finite holds the infinite within

the infinite quietly breathes through the finite

Even between the numbers 1 and 2

an endless river of numbers flows

So each fleeting moment cradles eternity

and eternity nests in the breath of now

Live this single breath wholly

and you have tasted the life of the eternal

 

And change –

change is but another face of the changeless

the most intricate gate of mystery

The one who can see stillness in motion

and motion in perfect stillness

Who is that one?

 

The one who beholds both worlds

and knows they are but one single reality

That one

has passed through every gate of mystery

 

Ah, living scripture of the Unseen

O essence of being

you are wondrous,

heartbreakingly wondrous beyond all names
